By considering the advantages and disadvantages of SMD and GOB, you can make a better choice regarding the packaging process.
1.SMD: Red, green, and blue LED chips are individually encapsulated into independent light beads, which are then soldered onto the PCB board using surface mount technology. There are gaps between the light beads, and the individual light bead particles can be seen on the surface.
GOB: Based on the SMD process, after the light beads are soldered, a layer of transparent and high-strength epoxy resin glue is applied to the entire surface of the PCB board to completely enclose the light beads, resulting in a smooth and flat surface.
2.SMD: The light bulbs are exposed, which makes them vulnerable to dust, moisture, and impacts. The protection level is relatively low, and they are prone to burnout in outdoor or harsh environments.
GOB: The adhesive layer provides waterproof, moisture-proof, dust-proof, and impact-proof protection. The protection level can reach IP65, making it suitable for outdoor, humid, or collision-prone scenarios.
3.SMD: There are black gaps between the light beads, and when viewed closely, they have a grainy appearance. The viewing angle is relatively narrow. If viewed for a long time, color drift or brightness reduction may occur due to the differences in the light beads, and the light points can be clearly seen.
GOB: The adhesive layer fills the gaps, reduces reflection, improves contrast, offers a wider viewing angle (up to over 160°), ensures better color consistency, makes the picture smoother, and reduces visual fatigue. However, when the modules are viewed closely against each other, there is a gap, which is a very challenging aspect for the manufacturer to control the process and material quality.
4.SMD: When a single light chip is damaged, it can be replaced directly using a hot air gun, which has low maintenance costs and simple operation.
GOB: The adhesive layer covering makes the repair process complicated. Special tools are required to remove the adhesive and replace the light chip. After the repair, there may be scars or color differences, and the maintenance cost is higher.
